1. Required Documents for Customs Clearance
All items imported into or exported from Thailand must be accompanied by complete and accurate documentation. The specific documents required vary depending on the nationality of the importer or exporter.
For Foreign Nationals:
- Passport
- Work Permit
- Bill of Lading (for sea shipments) or Air Waybill (for air shipments) to verify transport details
- Packing List specifying the type, quantity, and weight of all items
- Import License for restricted goods, such as Buddha statues, antiques, or alcoholic beverages
- Additional supporting documents, such as Certificates of Origin, Quality Certificates, or Health Certificates (for pets)
For Thai Nationals:
- Original Thai National ID Card
- Original Passport
- Copy of Household Registration
- Bill of Lading or Air Waybill to verify transport details
- Packing List specifying the type, quantity, and weight of all items
- Import License for restricted goods, such as Buddha statues, antiques, or alcoholic beverages
- Additional supporting documents, such as Certificates of Origin, Quality Certificates, or Health Certificates (for pets)
2. Tax and Duty
The Customs Department will determine applicable duties and fees based on the type and declared value of imported goods. Certain items may be eligible for diplomatic privileges or tax exemptions. Personal belongings not qualifying for exemptions may still be imported, provided that the relevant duties and taxes are paid in accordance with Customs regulations. General Information on Importing Personal Belongings into Thailand
For used personal items or general goods that do not qualify for diplomatic privileges, the sender must meet the following requirements:
Terms
- Hold a work permit valid for at least one year in Thailand
- Possess a B-type visa valid for at least one year, issued by the Thai Immigration Bureau
- Obtain an official letter from the Thai Board of Investment (BOI) if entering Thailand to work for a company or project, as this may be required to qualify for duty exemptions on imported personal effects
- Thai nationals who have resided in the country of origin for a minimum of 12 months are eligible for import duty exemptions
Regulations:
- The shipment must arrive in Thailand within six months of the sender’s entry into the country.
- Duty exemptions apply to only one sea shipment and one air shipment, with electrical appliances limited to one type per shipment.
- Only used personal items are eligible for import duty exemption.
- The shipment must be sent from the country where the sender previously resided or worked.
3. Customs Clearance Processing Time
Typically, customs clearance requires approximately 3–4 days for sea shipments and 2–3 days for air shipments following the arrival of goods at the destination port or airport.
4. Transportation and Delivery
After customs clearance, our professional team will manage the transportation of goods from the port or airport to the residence, ensuring the safety and integrity of all items throughout the process.
